Real Kiwi Hunting is a family-owned and operated outfitter based in the heart of New Zealand's South Island, at 80 Butlers Road, Fairlie. They provide premier guided hunting and fishing experiences across exclusive private land and wilderness areas in the Canterbury, Mackenzie, and wider Southern Alps regions.

With access to some of the finest free-range tahr, chamois, and red stag hunting in the country, Real Kiwi Hunting specializes in spot-and-stalk mountain hunts on foot — no helicopters. Their meticulous herd management programs on free-range, low-fence ranches ensure world-class trophy quality year after year.

The onsite hunting lodge in Fairlie provides warm, comfortable accommodation with genuine Kiwi hospitality, home-cooked meals, beer and wine with dinner, and everything you need for an unforgettable New Zealand adventure. Non-hunting companions are welcome with varied accommodation options including backcountry cabins, holiday homes, and the main lodge.

Real Kiwi Hunting also specializes in archery hunts, guaranteeing a 100% shot opportunity on all big game. Shot distances typically range 5–50 yards (some 60–70 yards). All hunting is spot-and-stalk or calling with decoys — no tree stands or blinds. No permits required for importing archery equipment.

Terms & Conditions

A 50% non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your dates.

Remaining balance is due upon arrival or prior to the start of the hunt.

Group discounts are available for drop camp bookings — contact for details.

Additional trophy animals can be added to any package — pricing on application (POA).

Firearm and ammunition hire is available for $250 for the duration of the hunt.

No permits are required for importing archery equipment into New Zealand. Carrying a North American hunting/firearms license is advised.

Hunters bringing conventional sporting rifles need a firearms license and import permit. Handguns and military-style firearms are prohibited.

Non-hunter companions are welcome and can stay at the lodge. Various accommodation options available including backcountry cabins, holiday homes, and the lodge.

Cancellations within 90 days of the hunt date forfeit the full deposit. Rebooking for a future date may be possible at the outfitter's discretion.

Real Kiwi Hunting reserves the right to modify itineraries due to weather, safety, or game conditions.

Catch and release is practiced for all trout fishing to sustain backcountry fisheries.

A non-resident fishing license is required from New Zealand Fish and Game.
